PLAYBACK: CELLIST ANDRIS KOH

She has perfect pitch. She can improvise at the drop of a hat. She’s the cellist behind our recent covers of pop songs on YouTube (start here https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3IJwTqOzSKg, if you’re curious)…

…and she’s a phenomenal musician AND human being, to boot!

Meet cellist Andris Koh!

Performance Credentials:

Classical Revolution Cleveland, OPUS 216, the Akron Symphony Orchestra, CityMusic Cleveland Chamber Orchestra, and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, among others.

*Fun fact: during her time studying at the Cleveland Institute of Music, Andris was the featured soloist for a Severance Hall concert, performing Dvorak’s Concerto for Cello and Orchestra.

Long Term Creative Goals:

To lead an arts organization while remaining a performing musician.

Favorite Performance Memory:

“Seriously, it’s any time I perform with OPUS 216 and come up with an impromptu tune! We love making music for clients with improvised versions of pop and classic tunes.”

Boiling Seafood on Lee Road in Cleveland Heights!

What You Do On A Day Off:

“Stay at home in my pajamas and cook!”

Musical Inspiration:

Cellist Janos Starker.

“I always listen to his CD album of Romantic Cello Favorites by David Popper.”

Non-Musical Inspiration:

“My father-in-law, Alfred F. Connors, Jr: He has made such an impact on the community with his medical knowledge and experience. He was recently inducted into the MetroHealth Hall of Honor and has a learning center named after him.”

Favorite Classical Composer, Artist, or Piece:

“Do the Melodica Men count? They are both classically trained and have done a beautiful job executing the technical and expressive aspects of both the classical and other music genres.”

Favorite Non-Classical Artist or Song?

“Bruno Mars! Bummed I missed the last opportunity to see him live in Cleveland.”
